2. This week we are going to be focusing on Narrative and its many different dynamics in literature. Each night, you will be reading a particular short story that there will be a link to on that day’s blog post. You will also be writing an IW (this weeks, all five of them are required, not optional).
3. During classtime this week and some of next we will be viewing and discussing the film of Cloud Atlas.
4. We will have a test on Cloud Atlas, as well as “surrounding” materials, next Wednesday, 03/09/2016.
5. Tonight’s short story reading is “The Secret Miracle” by the 20th century Argentinian, Jorge Luis Borges: click.
6. IW. Nota Bene: This IW is required. “The Secret Miracle” is a story about a kind of “lost” time, a “secret” period of time folded magically away into a small pocket of individual consciousness. Imagine that one of the characters in Cloud Atlas is bequeathed a similar “allotment” so as to complete or rectify an issue. Which character do you think this would be? And how/when/where would this occur? You may report on your findings or you may actually try to write briefly the story of the particular character you choose to work with. Or you could do a bit of both. Please write this IW in your google doc as usual. Deadline: 8am tomorrow, TU 03/01.
